SitLorDjedi

By 2024 my poetry was getting quite dope. When I started nomading, that elevated sense of freedom gave me the confidence to write a song and actually learn the process of creating one. I got Logic Pro on my new Mac with the intention of actually using it. Thanks to my good friends like Marcellus, Kemist, Raymon, and Trent, I was able to put together an album that provides some imagery for the thoughts and emotions in my soul.

The piece is called SitLorDjedi as a play on words. It can be read as "Sith Lord Jedi," which is the name of one of the songs. A warrior of the force that doesn't fully trust the dark side or the light side. It provides a metaphor of sorts to my reality as a black American living in the world of American imperialism. The Jedi, old Uncle Sam, with their perfection of propaganda, are seen as the good side of the force. Where the Sith are seen as evil. In the Star Wars movies, we point our noses at Anakin choosing the dark side and wonder why he'd ever work with such an evil force like Palpatine. But rarely do we go deep into the true meaning behind this move and why sometimes evil is just a matter of perspective. Palpatine was an asshole though forreal. I'm talking about the hidden meaning, not the actual movie.

It can also be read as "Sit little djed I" (using the Baltimore slang "lor" for "little"). The Djed in Kemet is the pillar of power, the throne of consciousness in our spine. That's why the album starts with "sit lor djed I," literally telling my conscious forces to sit down and take some time to unwind, write some poetry, and get my mind on other things. Whether it be stress at work, friendships, dating, physical fitness (used to be ashamed of how skinny I was), sometimes when you tell the djed to sit and be still, magic can happen in the meditation that subsequently unfolds.

The album is heavily inspired by the Star Wars show "The Acolyte," which features a pair of twins where one lives with the Jedi and the other becomes a Sith apprentice. They see the truth behind how the Jedi came to power: by force, and resist it. It shed light on something critical to my realization of how America is as a counterparty and not a thought form I identify with.

So I hope you enjoy my creative outlet. Unlike everything else, won't be asking for feedback on it. Just feel it!
